Asian Conversations
E-Portfolio & Travel Journal

HELLO! 大家好!
Hi, my name is Nina Vang and I am currently a sophomore at St. Olaf College, majoring in Sociology and Anthropology and Chinese with a Management Studies concentration. I was born in Maplewood, Minnesota, grew up in Lino Lakes, and now live in Shoreview. My family consists of my mom, my sister, her cat Tofu, and myself. I really enjoy baking, playing tennis and badminton, crafting, and singing in the St. Olaf Chapel choir!
I started learning Mandarin in college because I wanted to connect more with my heritage. My dad is Hmong and my mom is half Chinese, half Korean, but she was born and raised in China so culturally, I’m more half Hmong, half Chinese. I’m taking Asian Conversations because I want to learn about China and Japan through a different lens than that of a regular history or language course, and because I want to study abroad.
